Extreme Makeover - Me Edition!

I've joined with Amber and some other fantastic ladies for Extreme Makeover Me Edition. Go check it out if you'd like to join!

This week has not been a great week for me. I excercised 4 times last week (my goal is 6), but so far have only excercised on Monday of this week. AND I only made it for 30 minutes on the treadmill. I am SO TIRED! I'm not sure what the deal is.

Also, went to a bridal shower, and a celebratory dinner with little bro's fiance , and ate some things I shouldn't have. So I am up a little from last week. I'm seriously bummed.

I need a pep talk ladies! Because tomorrow's the wedding, and I don't know if I should just enjoy it, or if I should try to be really strong and not eat any of the scrumptious wedding food!
Today's question from Amber is how we stave off temptation. One thing I have done in the past, and need to do again is I make a list. I list all the reasons I want to get healthy - from the most shallow (like I might accidently run into an X from high school), to the more important (like how I want to have the energy to do fun activities with my children). I keep this list on me, then refer to it when I'm feeling really weak.

Also, to resist the temptation to quit before my treadmill time is up, I have some pictures taped to my treadmill. I know this is really dumb, but sometimes vanity is the ONLY thing that keeps me motivated. So the pictures...remember this picture I "made" of myself here?
Well I have the actual pictures of Jessica Alba taped on my treadmill to remind me that I can't give up! She's someone who takes great care of herself, and looks great as well (not unhealthy, but definitely trim!) Go ahead - I know I deserve a lecture on how I shouldn't be looking at a celebrity for my ideal body image, and I should be doing this for health reasons (which I am), but like I said, sometimes vanity motivates me more than logic.

I'm not giving up, even though I'm frustrated today...Next week will be a better week!

Xamin, I am all for exercise for the sake of staying healthy. But, please do not stifle yourself at the wedding for enjoying some great food. Life is so very short, so enjoy it to the fullest. I'm not saying pig out, but I am saying enjoy the moment as it comes.

Congrats to your brother and his new wifey!!

I agree....eat and enjoy the wedding, after all that is what life is about. If you don't enjoy the event because you are holding off on eating years from now that will be all you remember instead of what a great time you had without limitations. This is a HUGE event and you should enjoy it to its fullest.

Xazmin,

I agree with Tabitha and Lynn. Don't deprive youself at the wedding. Just get right back on the wagon after the wedding. Enjoy yourself!! Wedding don't come around every day.

Next week will be a better week. Hang in there and have.fun.at.that.wedding!!

Much love from NJ,
Sue

I am with you! We are going on a cruise this month and I wish I could lose so much weight before! Ugh 3 kids I blame that one on. So I have read some diets stuff that say you can eat whatever you want 1 day a week. So eat what you want at the wedding and then be good the rest of the week! See easy! Maybe I should photoshop my head on Jennifer Garner's body so I can have some motivation!!
I agree, definitely enjoy yourself at the wedding. You don't have to eat everything, but don't deprive yourself. Just keep at it and you'll be fine.

Instead of focusing on what you did NOT do, focus on what you did. GOOD for you for getting in a day of exercise. That's better than no days of exercise ;) Congrats, and have a wonderful upcoming week!

I'm of the mind that when you completely deprice yourself, you end up sabotaging your efforts. If you are dying for chocolat e- instead of devouring an entire bag of MnM's - have 3 and move on to grapes or something, yk? If you indulge at the wedding, just make sure you balance it out tomorrow!

You can DO this Xazmin!!! I know you can!

I say have fun at the wedding. It will be fun.

Well, here's the way I would compromise. First, I would eat prior to going to the wedding. Make it something healthy but filling, so that you won't be tempted to overeat, but you can still nibble all the fun stuff.

Enjoy that wedding girl! You only live once!!!!!

(Then just throw in an extra work out in the next week!)

I say enjoy yourself at the wedding! Sounds like you're doing good. I think that keeping a pic to motivate you is a good idea. I used to keep a skinny pic on the refrigerator door.

I think you should enjoy yourself at the wedding but eat small portions of things. Don't finish anything!

I love the idea of taping pictures up!

Have a great week!
Oh - don't worry about it. Everyone has an off week! I think you should go enjoy the wedding. Maybe before you leave, have a healthy snack and drink some water so you feel full. That way you can nibble on things but not eat too much.

Next week will be a better week!

XOXO

I agree with everyone else. Have a good time at the wedding and dont deprive yourself. The weight didnt come in a day or week and it wont leave that fast either. Dont make yourself miserable!!

Forget about those few pounds, your week start now! It's too late so don't beat yourself up over it anymore.

Look ahead not back, that's the easiest way not to trip!

Great job...keep up the good work! I love to workout only because it makes it"OK" when I slip-up a little on desserts! LOL! =)
I think four times in one week is awesome! Very inspiring! I just found your blog via The Masked Mommy and Mod Podge mania. I'm loving all the DIY projects you have here.

Enjoy the wedding while still staying within "smart" boundaries. Try not to get too down on yourself about gaining a few pounds. Great motivation with the picture!! Keep it up and get back on track (I think I'm giving myself this same pep talk! I need a swift kick in the rear!)
The one thing I have been telling myself is that If I give in and eat it then I will have to just work out that much harder, it is so not worth that piece of cake to have to run a million miles longer.

Jessica Alba is fine as long as you are motivated by her. And I say have fun at the wedding. You don't get to enjoy yourself like that all the time and next week will be a better week!!

YES IS WILL!!!! You can TOTALLY do this!!! Good luck and have fun at the wedding!!!! Loves!!

Enjoy the wedding! It's one night...and you can get "back on track" tomorrow. It's all about moderation though so have what you enjoy, just not as much.

Just remember that you don't have to do it all in one day. Baby steps...

Now if I could just take my own advice.

Enjoy the wedding! One day of fun won't kill you. Don't be so hard on yourself, we can't all have personal trainers like JA who have us work out for 6 hours a day 7 days a week. Celebs make their money from looking the way they do, and then they get airbrushed to look even better ;)
If it makes you feel better I've had a down week as far as the weight-loss bit goes myself.
I just found you while checking my other blogs and clicked a link... I recognize the struggle to carve out time for yourself. (I have 4 boys so I can relate to your schedule.) I just got off the treadmill after not being on for a week.

I don't have a scale. No one will pick me up and say "oh you're gaining a few..." (Besides, lean muscle weighs more than fat.) I base it on how my clothes fit. If they're too small I increase exercise, decrease calories. Make sure to mix up your activities too. I'm not a huge fan of the DVD work out, but P90X has a killer one that I can stick with.

I also find it is helpful to buy myself a "goal" dress or pair of jeans. I try them on every week and it encourages me. Nothing will motivate you like a tangible marker of your progress.

Do NOT skip the good stuff at the wedding, but plan for it: Decrease your calories a LITTLE bit before and after the event and DO NOT go there hungry. Before you go, fill up a bit on some fresh fruit, a whole grain something and lots of water all that day. Keep drinking it at the reception too. You get the yummy stuff and you don't over eat. Same principle as don't go grocery shopping when you're hungry.
Good luck and enjoy yourself.

Love the picture. I taped a picture of a finish line to my treadmill, while I was training for my first 5K!
