Extreme Makeover - Me Edition!

I've joined up with Amber to do a weekly linky fest for those of us who are trying to make ourselves over! If you are in the same boat, and want some bloggy support, go over and link up!

This week has been good for me. After a few slow weeks, my weight loss has really kicked into gear. I've been better at my exercise - something I actually LOVE, but seem to run out of time for. I know, I know - you're supposed to exercise first thing - but that just won't fly for me...believe me, I've tried! Evenings are when I seem to be able to really get it done. I hop on the treadmill, turn on a show I enjoy, and only allow myself to check "how much longer" during commercial breaks.

Also, I'm always trying to make food choices that are on the lower calorie end of the scale. I don't eat "light" or "fat free" of anything though. I feel like it is so synthetic - I question the actual health benefits of something so unnatural.

This week Amber asked us to share some snack ideas that seem to work for us. Here's mine...

With this:

Now I know you're supposed to snack on fruits and such, but to me, fruit is not a food. Yes it's delicious and yes it's refreshing - it's just not satisfying when you have the munchies. Yep, fruit is definitely a beverage - not a snack.

I crave salty snacks like nachos, chips, french fries...so the popcorn is a great substitute. Even the movie theatre butter (the kind I like) is very low in fat and calories. I know the sodium may not be as low as one might hope for, especially when I add my magic pixie dust - but I'm a salt craver and there is NO WAY I could pull of a sodium free diet. Instead I choose to drink lots and lots of water. That way the water retention effects sodium can have are countered. I also have really low blood pressure - so the high blood pressure risk associated with sodium is not an issue for me. If you have this issue I don't think lots of water will help much!

I still try to eat lots of healthy foods - especially those high in fiber - but when I am just craving a salty snack - the popcorn is better than the nachos or fries!

Thanks Amber for starting this great support system!

I do the popcorn thing as my snack as well. That's so much better than scarfing down an entire row of cookies. Ok, maybe that was just me that one time. :)

Thanks for stopping by my blog.

I'm a popcorn girl too! I'll have to try the seasonings. They look yummy! I love salt and also have low blood pressure. My thoughts exactly about flushing out the sodium with water. :-)

Good luck on your weight loss!!

Much love from NJ,
Sue

Hey, I don't do W.W. either. I used to and am familiar with the point system. I actually get too light headed when I do it. I'm not really sure it's enough food for me. Really. I'm not coping out here :)

I just watch my calories and make sure I'm at a calorie deficit for the day/week.

Loving the popcorn...I eat it all the time!

Keep up the good work!

xoxo ~Lisa
I am a salty eater too! Popcorn is a great snack. I am trying to eat more fruits and vegetables, but sometimes I just need a salty treat!

I love popcorn and I think it is a great snack!

I find that the only time I can exercise is first thing in the morning...if I don't do it then..it just doesn't get done.

Have a great week!

Well I guess I'm odd man out. I ONLY eat popcorn at the theater. I snack on almonds and will add a handful of dark-chocolate chips once in a while.

Way to go, keep working out~feel the burn!

Hey! You stole my favorite snack...with the SAME seasoning and everything!! ;) I am a HUGE fan of popcorn!! I agree with you about the light/ff stuff. I rarely eat FF things, and if it's not low fat, I just eat less of it.
Thanks for checking out my tablescape! I ate a whole bag of popcorn while I was doing my post, only I poured butter all over it, shame on me! I need to go work out....Kristen

Popcorn is my snack of choice too, we have it at least 4 times a week...made in the Whirley Pop (it's awesome!!)... we've even stopped putting butter on it to help with the diet... I prefer with butter, but ya gotta do what ya gotta do =)

Salt is my best friend. I could give up candy (and I already gave up Diet Coke) but never salt....yummy popcorn.
