Vacationing from exercise is NOT an option

I missed out on EM:ME last week, but I so need the support and motivation from all of you.

I'm still really stagnant in my mission to make myself over. I'm not really going backwards and gaining again...YET. But I know it's only a matter of time if I don't get back in the swing of things. PLUS I go to girl's camp on Monday, and I'm afraid the hike is going to kick my butt!

Walking 3 miles is something I can accomplish easily enough. Hiking a trail for 3 miles at an elevation of 6500 feet (hello...oxygen anyone?) is a whole 'nother story! So I'm pretty much preparing to make a fool of myself. Whatever. So Amber's question for us today:

Share with us some of your vacation survival strategies.

Hello, how much do we love to eat on vacations? Do you sometimes get the feeling that as a society this is like a 'free pass' to just indulge?? It seems that way to me.

Well, since girls camp is 5 days long, and we have a specific menu, and food we will be providing for the girls, I can't very well take a weeks worth of my own "diet food" and eat every day up there! So I'm going to take up some healthy snacks for myself, and really try to practice the whole "portion control" thing.

Also...it's my plan to use the "free time" we have each day to go on a brisk walk on the trails. I figure exercise in the mountains will definitely burn more calories than walking on my measley old treadmill...right? Wish me luck!

And please...tell me...what are some of your vacation strategies? If you'd like to link up to Extreme Makeover: Me Edition, head over to Amber's and leave a comment!

You'll do great. Have fun!
(And yes, steep hikes at high elevation = more strenuous work-out than treadmill at sea-level....)

Great plan! Have fun!!!!!!!! WTG on catching yourself before you slide the wrong direction. We have all been there too :)
I think the whole portion control strategy, plus the hiking/activity will help more than you think! :) Plus, you can have a SYTYCD dance-off and burn even more calories. ;) ;)

I'm sure you'll do great! Being with other active people will help you to be active and watch what you eat.
I'm always more active when I'm camping and on vacation. I will actually GET UP to get my chips. And I use weights strapped onto my wrists so everytime I dip into the bag, I'm workin' my biceps. : )

ooohhhh...make a friend hike with you! It's always easier if you have a partner in crime to motivate you and vice-versa! you can do it!
You are going to be so busy and having so much fun that you'll burn way more calories than you would at home. Good luck!
Go, go, go! (there's my support and motivation!) You'll have a great week, and the mountains will definitely be an inspirational place to burn those calories!

Have fun at camp! Unless the camp food is really terrific, I don't think portion control is going to be a problem.

You're gonna do great girl!! The fresh air will be GREAT for you, and walking in the fresh open air, surrounded by God's beauty will probably be so inspiring and refreshing.

I'd just eat the food and not worry about it. You need lots of energy for keeping up with all the girls. Or else you may be too tired to get in the workouts. I know at our camps there was usually a salad bar, so hopefully that's the case for you!

Can't wait to hear all about how inspired you're gonna be when you get back! :)

Girls Camp is a tough place to eat really healthy. But you can do it!! And if you don't sleep or sit around during the off times, you will do great. (Oh, and can I come with you? I love Girls Camp!)

It's great that you know what you need to do, and I wish you lots of luck doing it. The beautiful thing about being healthy is that we only have to do it one day at a time.

You're already doing great by pre-planning to take snacks with you. That's half the battle.

Enjoy yourself. Good luck this week!

Much love from NJ,

Hand Made for Fall - A party and a Giveaway!

I've been a busy girl! I have been wanting to do a giveaway for Fall, and when my fab friend Heidi revealed that her Monthly Craft Challenge for October would be Fall-themed crafts, I thought "YES! I will do a giveaway of Fall items - handmade by me!" So today I'm linking up with Heidi , and introducing my Handmade For Fall Giveaway as I show you what I've made for Heidi's party ! Sound good? First, a while back I showed you some coasters that I made, but it was clear back when I first started blogging, so I'm going to show you again with this new seasonal set! This idea has been floating around blog land, and I've seen several different variations. Here's how I do it. You will need: paper napkins, 4x4 ceramic tiles, 4x4 cork squares, MOD PODGE (what else?), sponge brushes (not shown), and polyurethane (not shown). Start by cutting your napkin down to a manageable size, slightly bigger than your tile. Next spread a layer of mod podg onto the t
