27 Days of Thankful - Day #13

Tonight I'll keep it short and sweet.

I am thankful for my car.

It was a pretty chilly day today. About 40 degrees. Now for sure it gets a LOT colder here than 40 degrees, but still this is below the temperature that I would consider comfortable to be walking around outside.

Today as we were coming home from Bookworm's dress rehearsal for the school musical, it was a little after 5 p.m. We were driving down the road, and I noticed a couple walking along the side of the road in the opposite direction. They were both weighed down with several plastic bags of groceries hanging off their arms and hands, including a couple of gallons of milk. I can't imagine doing my grocery shopping without a car, and carrying my groceries home on foot.

You know how when you get home and you want to make as few trips as possible to carry your groceries in, so you hang as many bags as you can possibly carry from your hands and arms, and then you grab the milk too? And it's so cold and heavy that your fingers are hurting by the time you make it from your car into the house? Yeah, now imagine walking who knows how far (there weren't any homes or apartments around for several blocks) with this many bags, and milk, and it's 40 degrees outside! If I hadn't had a car full of kids in every possible seat, I would have turned around and offered them a ride.

It made me really appreciate driving home in our warm car, enjoying the warm air from the heater, and the music from the stereo, and knowing that next time I get groceries, I will have the trunk of my car to transport them home.

What are you thankful for today? Head on over to Amanda's for more 27 Days of Thankful.

Wow, so true! And to add/copy you, I am grateful for good cars that work really well. We had so many years in our marriage with junker cars that literally fell apart that I love having a new car now.

That is definitely something to be thankful for!
Amen! I found myself internally grumbling this afternoon over the fact that my SUV is on the smaller side and I wish I had a minivan (NEVER thought I'd say that!). Your post is a great reminder. :)

Great reminder! I have lost circulation in my figers and had them turn blue and lost feeling too...just to get it all in one trip. I don't do that as much anymore. :)

See, I think if I had to do that with the carrying the groceries? I'd steal a cart. No wonder there are carts where they shouldn't be!

It's the things like that we're so often guilty of taking for granted.

Amen sister! I'm also thankful for my garage as my poor seminary students are scraping off ice at 5:20 A.M. :(

me too! especially in the rain too! i saw a mom and her toddler walking to the bus stop in the rain with no umbrella the other morning and felt so bad for them...i flipped around and handed an umbrella out the window to them. I hope they stayed dry the rest of the day.

A car is something a lot of us take for granted. It's the simple things that matter the most. A heater and a car radio are things I am thankful for too!
